What to Bring on Your First Food Day

Coming to get food for the first time can feel a little scary. We want you to feel welcome, so here is what your first visit will be like.

A Warm Welcome at the Door

When you arrive, someone will greet you with a smile. You do not need to feel embarrassed or nervous. Many people who visit us are working hard and just need a little help right now. That is okay. That is exactly why we are here.

You can come as you are. Wear comfortable shoes, because there may be a short wait. If you have trouble standing for long, let us know. We will help you find a place to sit.

If you have questions, just ask. Our team and our volunteers are kind, and they are happy to point you in the right direction.

What to Bring

You do not need much to get food at Daily Bread Distribution Center. We try to keep things simple.

It helps to bring:

  • A photo ID, if you have one
  • Something with your address, like a piece of mail (if you have it)
  • A bag, box, or cart to carry your food home

Do not worry if you cannot find every item. We do not want paperwork to keep food off your table. Come anyway, and we will do our best to help you.

If you take the bus or get a ride, plan for a little extra time. Central Florida traffic can be slow, so leaving early is a good idea.

Getting Your Food

Once it is your turn, you will move through the line and pick up food to take home. What we have can change from week to week. You may see fresh fruit, vegetables, bread, canned goods, and other items.

Let us know if anyone in your home has food allergies or needs special foods. We will help where we can. If you have a large family, tell us that too.

Our volunteers will help you carry heavy items if you need a hand. Just ask. No one should have to struggle on the way to their car or the bus stop.

The whole visit usually does not take long. Before you leave, take a breath and look around. We are more than a food line.

More Than Food

While you are here, ask about our other programs. We want to help you build a strong future, not just get through today.

You can learn about:

  • Free job-skills classes to help you find better work
  • Community wellness support to help you and your family stay healthy
  • CADD, our new driver-safety program

These programs are free, just like the food. Many of our neighbors come for food first, then find a class or program that changes their week, their month, or their year.

You belong here. Whether this is a hard season or a long road, you do not have to walk it alone. Our doors are open, and we are glad you came.

We Are Glad You're Coming

Your first visit is a brave first step. We will meet you with kindness, food, and real help for whatever comes next.
